"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
The following phrases in this message should put you on alert:
- "united state of america" (this email uses bad English)
- "cheque " (Beware of any scheme that involves cashing checks or money orders and then wiring a portion of the funds somewhere - you'll be liable for the entire amount if the checks or money orders turn out to be fake, even after you have received and forwarded cash. If it's a lottery prize, remember that real lotteries do not pay large prizes by check. They wire the money directly to your bank account and you do not pay for that. Many scammers promise a large check only in order to then demand payment of courier fees for a fake courier service. )

This email lists mobile phone numbers. Use of such numbers is typical for scams because they allow criminals to conceal their true location. They can receive calls in an Internet cafe from where they send you emails, while pretending to be in some office.

This email lists free webmail addresses. Use of such addresses is typical for scams. Lotteries, banks and any but the smallest of companies do not normally use such addresses. Criminals use them to anonymously send and receive email at Internet cafes.

Hello

I am Mrs. Michelle Ohara,i single mother from Michigan United State Of
America, I have been a victim of scam for several years, I lost so
much money in the hands of internet fraudsters, for years i have been
paying a lots of money in order to receive my covid-19 compensation
payment from the Nigerian Government but not knowing i was only
contacting the wrong people and over the years, I have paid over
$22,000.00 to the internet fraudsters who keeps asking for more until
a friend directed me to Pastor Christian Oyakim, Pastor Christian is
the Head of the Covid-19 Payment Office Nigeria and also one of the
senior Pastors at Faith Living Church of God.

At first, I though it was another way of getting me to pay more money
then i decided to travel down to Nigeria in search of this man and
when i got to his office in Nigeria, I explained myself to him then he
blamed me for not making rightful inquiries before sending those money
to those wrong people and according to him that many people has been
contacting him through email but he never responded back because of
numerous scams all over the world today, He said that whoever that is
contacting him through email must provide the payment code numbers
else, He will not respond back to that person then assumed it was just
a common scam.

After much explanations, He opened the payment files then i saw my
payment code numbers and within an hour, My cheque of $500.000.00 was
handed over to me without asking for any fees, I was very happy
returning back to my country America with my long awaited compensation
fund after several years of dealing with internet fraudster and today
i got my cheque without paying a penny and that is my reason for
contacting you today because when Pastor Christian opened the payment
files at his office, I saw your payment details and payment code
numbers which i quickly copied it off my head then decided to inform
you about your covid-19 payment cheque which has been pending for
years at Mr.Bellow office and also for you to stop whatever
transactions you had with anyone who promised to assist you get your
fund, their are all liars remember, I have been a victim for years and
i wouldn't want anyone to become a second victim of scam and that is
my reason for contacting you today.

COVID-19 PAYMENT CODE NUMBERS................ CODVID/0095196x0003/FCN

You have to contact Mr.Bellow immediately but please don't let him
know i was the one who gave you those informations, Contact him today
and trust me, Your cheque will be issued and released to you within
24hours,its not necessary that you must travel to Nigeria but you can
send him email with the payment code numbers which is the only
confirmation he want to see from you.
