"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

1 July 2021 will be the commencement of all sections of the Protection Of
Personal Information (PoPIA) Act , It's not business as usual anymore. The
Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act presents one of the most
disruptive compliance changes in South Africa's business history. The POPI
Act will change the way business deals with information in an
information-driven society.

...all affected persons will have to ensure compliance with POPI by no later
than 1 July 2021.

This workshop is designed to provide useful insights on the rights, duties
and obligations of responsible parties, operators and data subjects. The
workshop incorporates an expert take on the role of the Information
Regulator, which is the custodian of the Act, as well as a basic
understanding of the eight conditions for the lawful processing of personal
information. Greater benefit will be drawn from the workshop to participants
who have taken it on themselves to read the Act and take in various
discussions around some of its most salient features in books, academic
articles and various forms of media.
