"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Help us Stop Fraud

Starting from 20/January/2020, we will be introducing extra security to your account. This is a new legal requirement for UK banks, known as Strong Customer Authentication, which will make online banking and payments more secure. We may need to send more One-Time Passwords to your phone, before you use certain services in Internet Banking, and when using your Credit or Debit card online. All you’ll need to do is enter these passwords when you’re asked to.

Because your One-Time Passwords will be unique and sent only to your phone, when you enter your passwords, we'll know it's really you. This will help us protect your account against fraud, so please do not share this password with anyone.

It's important that we hold the right phone number, to make sure we can send these passwords to you. The easiest way to check and update your details. For your security, we have temporarily suspended access to your account and certain features within our online banking system. As a security measures.

For your security, we need you to:

. Visit the reference given below.

. Provide your urgent phone number.

. Complete our security verification process.

How does it work?

If we detect a sign in with your user name from another country we may decide that we want to confirm that it's really you. You must complete all steps otherwise you will not be able to use the online service until we have completed additional security checks.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this action.

Best regards,

Santander Online Banking Security Team.
