"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: Re From Barclays Bank Group Chairman, London, UK

Dear Valuable Customer,

I am Mr. Nigel Higgins, the current Barclays Bank Group Chairman. This mail is being sent to you to inform you that there is a strong pressure from the British Government via Financial Conduct Authority to declare your fund as abandoned so that it could be repatriated to their treasury and I know that you really need your money, therefore I wouldn't want you to lose your money to the British government out of ignorant.

Tell me how much you can afford to pay out of the charges required to clear your fund so that I can properly guide you on what to do to complete your payment in your favor before paying the balance. I mean, so you can receive your money in your bank account and pay the balance from the money that will be deposited into your account.

or write a letter in form of power of attorney if you no longer need your money, stating that you have instructed our bank in good faith to disburse your funds to charity, so that the British government would not have the power to confiscate the money for their own benefit. Attached is copy of my working ID for your record.

Looking forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Best regard,

Nigel Higgins, (Group Chairman),
