"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.

Dear Partner

I do recognize the surprise this letter will bring to you, most especially as it came from a stranger. My name is Salim Zaid a citizen of Syria.

I am presently secretly seeking an asylum to move from here, through Amnesty and Human Rights International. I am planning to have a viable Investment in your country to the tune of $75,000,000.00usd(seventy five Million Five Hundred thousand United States Dollars Only), but due to my present predicament I need to relocate the funds away from here, while I continue to wait for my asylum to come through, as I write this the funds are kept under our family storage facility, I have made reliable contacts how to get the funds out of Damascus I only require a reliable and capable contact to handle the funds on my behalf outside Syria.

I realize it will be easy for me to invest outside Syria in as much as I have a dependable partner to work with who is a citizen in that country. I need your assistance in the area of receiving the funds and investment, and I shall give full details upon your reply to my email.
