"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
This email message is a next of kin scam.

Greetings, my name is Paddy Vincent from Sierra Leone, it might look so strange contacting you for this kind of assistance but I am in a very tight situation that I need one to help me out.

My father was a successful business man in Cote D'Ivoire who just died of Ebola virus last week as he traveled to his home town in Sierra Leone, there is no record of ebola virus in Cote D'Ivoire for now and before he left just to go and supervice his company overthere and it was last week's wednesday they informed me that he died and was diagnised of ebola disease, and warned me never to come to his Sierra Leone. Since my mother died in a car accident I have been with my father in Cote D'Ivoire where I am schooling till date. While he was alive he deposited the sum of $5 million in a bank using my name as his next of kin, now that he is dead and I am alone I want to get out of Cote D'Ivoire to further my studies inÂ abroad so I want you to help me transfer the money to your country, I will give you 10% of the total amount for receiving the money into your account.

I'll be glad if you can stand as my parent to help me acheive my goal in life.
