"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
The following phrases in this message should put you on alert:
- "i will like you to " (a common phrase found in 419 scams)
- "million united state dollars" (they want you to be blinded by the prospect of quick money, but the only money that ever changes hands in 419 scams is from you to the criminals)
- "united state dollar" (this email uses bad English)

Good Day,
I am Mr Fataya .M.I barhim from Sudan, as am sending this email to you now

and i will like you to discuss with them over the phone so you people can
talk more over about my request for investment in your country, please
kindly furnish me with your direct cell number so give it to them to call
you for a discuss over the phone than email.

Briefly, I am proposing to you and have a facial meeting together as I am
still making securing a lot of things here in Sudan because of the way
things are going on here now, I need you to see them face to face so you
people can arrange to put the fund into an account and carry on with the
investment.

I do not mind any lucrative investment, so far it will be profitable,
possibly into Real estate/Properties or with your position in the country
we can look into buying Franchise business from any good company, all i
need is you to be of great assistance and i will be willing to offer you a
good % of my total fund.

My capital fund for any good investment is US$3Million United State Dollars
and is about R30Million South African Rands in total and the money is
already in your country.I want to invest in South Africa, right now they
are in a city called Durban city, they don’t know anyone and am afraid so
nothing will happen to them, and your assistance is highly need and
appreciated.
