"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

An email address listed inside this email has been used in a known fraud before.
This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
The following phrases in this message should put you on alert:
- "dear friend" (a common phrase found in 419 scams)
- "huge sum of money" (they want you to be blinded by the prospect of quick money, but the only money that ever changes hands in 419 scams is from you to the criminals)
- "utmost confidentiality" (scammers urge victims to keep the transaction secret because they don't want anyone to point out to them that it is a scam)
This email message is a next of kin scam.
This email lists free webmail addresses. Use of such addresses is typical for scams. Lotteries, banks and any but the smallest of companies do not normally use such addresses. Criminals use them to anonymously send and receive email at Internet cafes.

Basically the issue I want to unravel to you is very classified and confidential but it involves a huge sum of money from a foreign deceased customer (late) Dr. Michael Woods who died in a plane crash along with his wife and two children,he deposited here in the bank where I work the sum of Â£ 15,798,060.00 GBP,and I'm willing to give you 40% for your help at the end of the transaction.
After your response to this letter, I will send you a text application / claim form, you will need to fill out and send a copy to the bank Credit Suisse will allow them to handle a symmetric release the funds to your designated account as the next of kin
The choice of contacting you is aroused from the geographical nature of where you live, particularly due to the sensitivity of the transaction and the confidentiality herein.

I would like to seek your permission to have you stand as the family representative of the deceased to retrieve the money into your account, I need your urgent co-operation because the UK banking policy and guideline stipulates that any funds belonging to a deceased person for a period of 5years will be transferred into the bank treasury as an unclaimed debt and I do not want that to happen which is why I need your assistance.

I need your sincere co-operation, trust and utmost confidentiality to
enable us conduct this transaction successfully. I assure and promise you
that this transaction will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that
will protect you from any bridge of law. Meanwhile, i need your contact
