"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.

Subject: I HAVE ARRIVE WITH YOUR CONSIGNMENT DIPLOMAT JOHN DAVID??? GOOD NEWS

Good-day!!! I am Mr. John David the Diplomat that was appointed to deliver your consignment to you by you. Anyway, I am writing to inform you that I have arrived into the United States and that I am presently at Baltimore Washington International Airport(BWI) Baltimore Maryland.

As it stands now, there will be a need for me to commence the immediate clearance of the Consignment boxes through the US Customs in order for us to avoid the consignment, been seen as a security risk because of it's nature, sizes and weight.

In the light of the above, I would need you to urgently get in touch with me Back and in the same furnish me with the following details:-

1) Your full Name and physical address where delivery will be made to you.

2) Provide me with a copy of your photo ID; This will enable me to know that you are the true beneficiary. You can as well send same by scanning and sending as an e-mail attachment

3) Confirm to me the name and details of the nearest Airport to you. As soon as all of the above are received, I shall commence work and shall be briefing you accordingly.
