Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Subject: MY MONEY HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED.
Happy new year, dear good friend Cathy,
I have been able to transfer my money to Zurich in Switzerland after a long time through the help of one Mr.Jack Robertson. He is a very good man.
Well I just write to inform you that I left behind US$50,000:00 (Fifty Thousand United States Dollars)for you with my Lawyer in South Africa. It's just that I can not forget how you are the very first person I contacted to help me, till today I still dont know what went wrong.
Anyway,I have forgotten all about the past and all I am doing now is to make sure that I invest my money properly,as I can not forget my vows to God almighty to take care of the poor and needy with my money.
Reply me now and I will give you the contact details of my Lawyer whom by his power and kindness made it possible for me to be in Switzerland, for you to contact him and he will give you directives on how to transfer the US$50,000:00 to you.
Best Wishes,
Yours sister Mrs.Mary Mabongo.
