Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

promising proposal, which I know might interest you. My name is
Desmond Ajunwa, a medical doctor attached to the Humanitarian Refugee
Camp in Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire.
I am interested in engaging your services for my friend as the
manager of his large volume of funds for investment purposes and safe
keeping.
I appologise for the unsolicited nature of this proposal but if this
proposal is acceptable to you, write to me, so that we can work out
remuneration for your participation in the transaction, and also let
you know how we can achieve this objective.
I ask and request that you make the earliest mail possible for
further details in respect of this transaction.
