"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: winning notification

Dear,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected as one of the winners of the Canadian Charity Lottery (CCL) held on the 10th july, 2005. All participants were selected through a computerized balloting system drawn from 9,660,000 email addresses of internet users from Middle East, Asia, Africa, South America, Europe , North America and Oceania as part of our international promotions program, which is conducted every quarter.
Your email address attached to ticket number 254-6211-1548-643; with serial number 9981-57 drew the lucky numbers 11-21-53-00-17-92, and consequently won the lottery in category “A”. Therefore, you have been approved for a lump sum pay out of CD688,477.00(six hundred and eighty eight thousand four hundred and seventy seven Canadian Dollars only). This is from a total prize money of CD4,065,431.00(four million, sixty five thousand, four hundred and thirty one Canadian Dollars only) shared among 43 winners in this category.
