Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

It would be my pleasure if you could accept to be the 17th prize winner of the last draws of the Athir Lottery International Programs WorldWide held last week in which email address, names, address, radomly generated by computers were used to pick winners attached to tickets numbers. As a special consultants to the Athir Lottery International body in Europe with headquarters in Oman, I am expected to present the full details of all the seventeen winners generated by the computer in this 2nd category approved for a lump sum pay out of One Million euro each. I have decided to seek your consent and inform you of this opportunity and hence your inclusion as a prize winner of one million euro for our mutual benefit. On receipt of this prize money by your humbleself, we shall split the money on an agreed arrangement.
I have worked out details to make it possible you are contacted by the paying clerk of the lotto house within 24hours if you are willing to participate. This is possible because of the special trust reposed on my office and my humble self. For this purpose, I have attached your email address to ticket number 6781209378 with a serial number of 489-2917 which drew lucky numbers 3-89-11-45-52-05 and consequently won One Million Euro in the 2nd category. All other details will be sent to you on your response.
It is expected that all seventeen winners have been selected through a computer ballot system drawn from over 18,000 companies and 40,000 individual email addresses and names from all over the world. So consider your inclusion by me more of a priviledge than luck. This promotional program takes place every year and is sponsored by eminent personalities like the Sultan of Brunei as part of wealth creation and revolving plans for the world.
For security reasons and easy collection, I hereby advise that you keep this information very confidential until your claims have been processed and money remitted to you. So far much has been said and due to my sensitive position, I will await a response from you before giving more details and necessary guidance to ensure that you receive money within 72hours.
